Description

Jetty on Derwent Water A view across Derwent Water in the Lake District Cumbria. The mountians in the distance are the Skiddaw Range and Blencathra. Blencathra means "Devils Peak" but it is also known as Saddle Back, presumably because of its shape. Once a part of the lake known as Bassenthwaite it is now connected only by the River Derwent. Derwentwater is hailed as 'Queen of the Lakes', and is surrounded by some of the most magnificent scenery in the Lake District. The lake is three miles long by one and a quarter miles wide and is the third largest of the Cumbrian lakes.
