Description

"I was a mere two months in the field, studying under the venerable G'rausjo when we came across this most amazing site. We were somewhere in the far wilderness of Harnun, south of the kingdoms of the coast, and though I had heard tell of such creatures I had assumed that they were mere fiction and fable, the stories of naive aboriginals. I must admit that most of my elder colleagues thought similarly, and even when evidence was presented in the form of one great leg and the hollowed out shell they still cried hoax. And yet here it was, and I was forced to reassess my understanding of the natural world. I remember G'rausjo laughing when he saw my face, my awe at such a thing that seemed pure fantasy, and he proceeded to explain to me the complexities of the animal. He pointed out that the mounds that surrounded it, tall and conical, were the mansions of industrious insects, much like those I had once observed on the banks of the Hyaur River in Mersinoe, and that underneath the earth they were interconnected. 'A vast empire' he said. But what I was not prepared to accept was that this great beast was not only a sentinel, a guardian over them, but also one of them. Like the queen there can be only one, and growing to enormous size he stands watch over his diminutive brethren. His legs have atrophied from its constant stance, but G'rausjo assured me that if the need arose, he could quickly regain his momentum and move with oddly lithe and sinuous dexterity. 'I have seen it', he said to me, and I no longer doubted him. I have seen many great things in this world during my travels and my studies, but nothing has ever compared to the day I saw this great king, and the moment his eye turned and gazed at mine, and for a moment I realized that he was thinking about me." Another little story. Anyway, the head of the creature and the mounds were modeled in Silo. The shell, spines, and legs, as well as the plants were modeled in xfrog. I really feel like this one could be a lot better, but it's becoming too complicated for my computer to handle. Although you cant see it, there are over 1200 little spheres in the creatures head to add to the detail. I'm going to render a close-up so you can see it..... Thanks for looking!
