Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.
For those looking at my gallery, enjoy it and feel free to leave comments and sitemail! Good day to all!

I think the magnifying glass is really cool. It looks like something of old. Perhaps it belonged to a detective long ago. Perhaps a scientist of some sort. Great shot of your friends magnifying glass.

The table cover has a velvet look to it. Great detailed photo. Antiques remind me of my grandmother's house. She and my grandfather were married in 1910. They had all the National geographics from the teens and twenties...I loved them and still do to this day. As grand as the articles were and pictures...the ads were almost better. Ancient cars advertised when new...skinny little tires on spoked wooden wheels. The roads were so bad, chains were sold to keep a car from skidding off the road when it was muddy. Her father (my great grandfather) had been in the Civil War in the 13th New York Cavalry...her stories of his adventures, his sword and his uniform buttons are responsible for me choosing a career in the Army years ago. Well, enough of this. I leave you with one antique smell...mothballs in the closets!

"I treated my camera to the wealth of details that are every day life for a friend of mine." Wow, Chip, there's something so sweet about that line~~I just love it!! Your foto brings to mind MY grandmother's house and all the memories that I still have about it. Some things just take us back, transport us to times passed.

At first I thought it was wood art, but then I zoomed and saw it was fabric. A very beautiful table cloth indeed.. And it seems you had a cosy time with your friends :-)

What a wordsmith you are! I have an almost identical magnifying glass that I used even more before digital cameras..now a macro pic on the screen reveals even more AND keeps still! And Paisley chenille! Gosh what memories that must have for the owner.

Beautiful capture, Chip; the placement of the magnifying glass really makes this shot!

I had to take a second look, just to make sure, it wasn't fractal art, well almost. Paisley patterns seem to have that old world charm about them... like it or not, it's fascinating. great commentry to match this photo. BB

My grandmother's house was old, with highly glossed, dark wooden floors and a smell of polish. I always felt a sense of peace when I walked from the hot south Louisiana sun into its cool, darkened interior. My grandparents were courting in 1916, and also had very old National Geographics. Many a time I sat cross legged on hard wooden floors, totally engrossed in different places and times. Thanks for taking me back to that time. Beautiful image and words. You have a facility of expression that opens windows into your world and sets me to thinking more deeply about my own. Wonderfully done!
