Utilizing a unique method of digital imaging, Japanese artist Dan OBANA creates a contemporary imagination of the traditional method of hanga block printing.  His works, to which he refers as digital hanga, are complex, multilayered photographs of analog materials.  OBANA’s synthesis of the digital and analog realms provides not only a thoughtful introspection into the development and role of technology in our contemporary lives, it references the age-old tradition of the multi-layered techniques used to produce original hanga prints.  Over time, OBANA believes that the continued refinement of his methods will ,in fact, lead to limitless artistic possibilities, echoing the deep visual effect created by his complexly constructed works.

Fantastic work here , along with the suggestive highlights that provides a stimulus for multiple viewpoints, this is true abstraction folks ! I am sure that some of the Vue user's would like to know how the 3-D cg work-flow is implemented .....

Dear Odessey: Dear november22: Thank you for interest of my work.I roughly present the work-flow as followings: 1. Conventional collage By using photograph, newspaper or magazine, conventional collage is created. 2. 3DCG collage Some of the geographic patterns are newly generated by using the image of the gray scale on the terrain editor. And then they are combined, and overlayed. A lot of trial and error are necessary. 3. Complex texture The image with a complex texture is mapping on each terain features. It is a point to select the style of mapping. At that time the conventional collage could be used as that complex texture. 4. 2DCG collage The 2DCG collage could be easily done on Photoshop. The trial and error of a synthetic mode of Layer is a main point. Depending on artwork the weight of the combination with kind of collage are different. A lot of works using collage are exhibited in My Web Site. I think that they could be good examples for you. http://hobana.cocolog-nifty.com/ Haruo OBANA
