Description
My friend Carla lives in her husband's house in the hills outside Arquà Petrarca, in the southern part of the province (county) of Padova. Her husband is a lute maker, who emigrated to London some years ago. They keep in touch thanks to the Internet, Skype and trips back and forth every few months. They have two children, currently at the university and she has just retired as a teacher of Italian in the high school of the nearby town of Monselice.
The land she and her husband inherited from his parents is on a hillside, but they cultivate only what can grow by itself. The house is a typical farmers' house, transformed into a modern home. Yet it still has some aspects of the old houses, among them this type of shutters and a shade with Virginia creeper or five-leaved ivy (Parthenocissus quinquefolia). This creeper with its gaudy purple leaves in autumn here is commonly called 'vite americana' (American vine) probably because it looks like a vine, which is also used for shades.

Beautiful Sandra. At times I had idly thought of retiring somewhere in Italy, Southern France, or Spain. This house looks like something I would love to live in. Well Arizona doesn't have the atmosphere, but it has a good climate, if you like heat. After our cold spell it is back to above normal temps. 96F a couple of days ago and still in the 90s, but it is supposed to go down to the 80s, and still no rain!.

home is where the heart is, your friend Carla seems to embrace this, holding the home, the heritage for her husband, off creating lutes, a beautiful sounding instrument, in a strange foriegn land... home is where she lives, where she wakes, where she sleeps, where she breathes... this is her home. beautiful shot!
