Description

This image was taken in the Kingdom of Swaziland way back in November last year. This Blue Wildebeest (I am yet to see blue in them...)got the hair on his tail stuck in the acacia thorn tree! When we entered this small game reserve he was standing there and only when we left and saw him in the same spot again did we realize his dilemma! Now you must know one thing - these animals are as dumb as they look... They really, really are not the brightest lights in the harbour!!! Hopefully by now he plucked up the courage to loose a few strand of hair!!! LOL... Thank you for stopping by and for your valued comments and favs on my Tall One of yesterday! Stay well! Hugs, Carin xx

Poor thing! And of course if you tried to help him he could hurt you; maybe it you tried approaching he'd get scared and run away, thereby solving his problem? At any rate, he's a strange and beautiful creature, great shot!

Oh my Goodness! Poor little wildebeest. He's probably still walking around in circles eating the grass he can, and trying to understand why he's stuck! lol! Good capture!

He is totally adorable! I am so glad I don't live there because I'd be attempting rescues on such dangerous beasts as this and then taking them home with me. :-) He really does have a fabulous face. I bet he uses those horns well. I hear they are rather unpredictable.

Excellent image of the handsome beast, caught in somewhat of a dilemma, Carin. As I was reading your narrative I was wondering if you had entertained thoughts of playing the well-intended good Samaritan by going up to free its tail from the branch, ala removing a thorn from the paw of a lion. Despite its low mental capacity, you could have made a friend for life.

I know some human-type creatures with as much brain power; unfortunately, they're not as intriguing as wildebeasts. Of course he could be an exceptionally vain fellow as well, reluctant to solve his dilema simply because he'd been growing and grooming that tail hair for months, and just as it started coming out right...boom...a pesky tree gets in the way of it! All of that aside though, I love the visual texture of this image. Its so rich and "bumpy" in that way that I really like. You got clouds, you got grass, you got a dumb mammal with his tail stuck, and a smart tree hoping the dumb mammal doesn't pee on it, and it all works together perfectly...the textures and implied textures are great, and they're all wonderfully defined, picked out, and presented. Fantastic work.

Great shot and great comment Carin. He might still be there. When you talk about a dumb animal, wildebeest always come to mind!

Over heree they are also known as Gnus (news). These animals always got the most sympathy from the group I was with in Kenya. They really are dumb though, dinner on the hoof for the lions. Exceptional picture.
