I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

Poor thing! And of course if you tried to help him he could hurt you; maybe it you tried approaching he'd get scared and run away, thereby solving his problem? At any rate, he's a strange and beautiful creature, great shot!
durleybeachbum
How funny that he's not bright enough to work out a solution!

Oh poor boy, hope he wasn't easy prey, bet he soon found out how to get free if he saw a lion. Great pic.

Oh my Goodness! Poor little wildebeest. He's probably still walking around in circles eating the grass he can, and trying to understand why he's stuck! lol! Good capture!

Fantastic shot! :)

He is totally adorable! I am so glad I don't live there because I'd be attempting rescues on such dangerous beasts as this and then taking them home with me. :-) He really does have a fabulous face. I bet he uses those horns well. I hear they are rather unpredictable.

Excellent image of the handsome beast, caught in somewhat of a dilemma, Carin. As I was reading your narrative I was wondering if you had entertained thoughts of playing the well-intended good Samaritan by going up to free its tail from the branch, ala removing a thorn from the paw of a lion. Despite its low mental capacity, you could have made a friend for life.

I so often see thing on here I never saw before, Awesome shot :)

I know some human-type creatures with as much brain power; unfortunately, they're not as intriguing as wildebeasts. Of course he could be an exceptionally vain fellow as well, reluctant to solve his dilema simply because he'd been growing and grooming that tail hair for months, and just as it started coming out right...boom...a pesky tree gets in the way of it! All of that aside though, I love the visual texture of this image. Its so rich and "bumpy" in that way that I really like. You got clouds, you got grass, you got a dumb mammal with his tail stuck, and a smart tree hoping the dumb mammal doesn't pee on it, and it all works together perfectly...the textures and implied textures are great, and they're all wonderfully defined, picked out, and presented. Fantastic work.

Fantastic photo and wonderful story about him!

Wonderful capture! I'm glad you took advantage of his momentary situation to get this great head-on portrait! Hy laat my dink aan iemand wat ek werk met ... Ek sal jou later! LOL!

Great shot and great comment Carin. He might still be there. When you talk about a dumb animal, wildebeest always come to mind!

Sad tale for sure. Awesome capture Carin. Nasty horns. Dana

Over heree they are also known as Gnus (news). These animals always got the most sympathy from the group I was with in Kenya. They really are dumb though, dinner on the hoof for the lions. Exceptional picture.
