Description

There are times when a cluttered, sometimes muddy, always less-than-pretty truckyard provides a pleasant surprise. Sometimes you see grasshoppers there. Sometimes you see woodlice, or a stunning number of slow-witted aphids feeding on some weed or another, too entranced to avoid the ladybugs that have come to feed upon them. Though I couldn't get a picture of it (not a clear one, anyway) I saw a ladybug eating an aphid while the aphid continued to feed on whatever stalk so completely occupied its attention. Or maybe the aphid was stuck, maybe it couldn't withdraw it's sucking mouthparts. At any rate, the ladybug had an interesting feast, and I often wonder what it must feel like to feed on something that is, itself, in the process of feeding. Do you taste what it's eating as well? Not far from the ahpids and the ladybugs feeding on them, I found a flat-bed truck. I'd expected the usual dirty metal, but to my surprise, the bed was wooden, weathered, and criss-crossed with thick, corroded chains. I was fascinated by the wood planks (a good two inches thick) and the scaly, oxidized metal. And despite the life, death, and feeding struggle taking place a few steps behind me, I got lost in wood and metal, and the constant buzzing of flies. **** As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting. I have to work tomorrow (at least I think so) and so hopefully everyone gets to have more of a weekend than I do.

Ah yes. Somewhere in my files I have a picture of an old railroad flat car with the same 2", weathered planks. Getting a splinter would be very easy:) The chain is something else...maybe served as an anchor chain at one time.

Believe it or not, as soon as I saw the chain, songs came into my head, eg. 'Working on a chain gang'...'Unchain my heart' or our very own OZ-gal Tina Arena, with 'I'm in chains' and one of my all-time favourites: 'Unchained melody', remember the movie: "Ghost" ?... Anyway, that's spooky, speaking of all the interesting insect's, you are talking about and then we are both posting Grasshoppers, funny coincidence ? Finally it's on to your pic, a monochrome special with great POV, superb detailed shot. BB

OH This is awe... cough! I read another place, that you might not like that word? This is a really gorgeous shot. I love the round chain links with the flat ground and the vertical lines in the background. Great perspective as a result.

You always have such a unique perspective with your camera and your thoughts. It is interesting how nature is feeding on, and eating away, at the chain, as alive and voracious as the ladybug and aphid, in the constant life and death saga. CC

Great POV and detail. I like the slight twist in the chain as it disappears off frame and the contrasting horizontal lines in the background.
