Description

I thought I'd take a little break from the Leonov, and show everyone this one. The New Orleans was designed by Rob Caswell, my collaborator on the Leonov series and a dear friend of too many years. This was my contribution to last year's Traveller calendar. I had worked for quite a while on getting the New Orleans just right, consulting with Rob, and was very happy her first print production was in the calendar Andrew Boulton at Traveller 3D does every year, all proceeds going to charity. I got to contribute two pieces to this years! So here we see two small SDBs escorting civilian ships through a traffic corridor that passes close to the main population centers of the ocean-world Marianus, the four enormous arcologies in the background. Thanks for taking a look! -Tom

Wonderful! I'll have to look up the website to see what's being done with the Traveler ships I loved and had shot out from under me while I was in college. :)

very cool design, almost a retro 70's Angus Mckie design... but much more up to date!

Very nice work. It LOOKS like a Traveler ship with that retro Angus McKee vibe going on. LOL Every time I hear 'Traveler', I think back to the fist edition where everyone used cutlasses! Now many call it hard-science fiction? LOLOLOLOL You did good work.

Super work. Simple design gives it a great sense of realism. Too many times people put on excess greeblies on the hull. This is perfect. Is this model available?

Traveller 3D? A calendar? I guess I just don't know nothing. I'll have to check that out. Oh, yeah, great render. Those little SDBs look very cool - a mix between a fighter and a... bigger SDB (sorry, sans caffeine). Excellent detail on the New Orleans too.

It's really flattering to see my design rendered with skill and passion. The bright colors here evoke the more optimistic 80's, when we still seemed to have some realistic future in space. It hearkens to a feel of classic space opera - Poul Anderson, Alan Dean Foster, et al. And I agree on the little SDB escorts. Those are way cool - very much like a one-man version of a Gazelle. They're just perfect! The whole image is just ideal for a calendar and I bet it steals the show. Great vision and outstanding modeling.

This is a cool render, though the 2 SDB's to me look a little more like the classic Gazelle class Close Escort from Classic Traveller. Now your New Orleans as the lines of the classic System Defense Boat as shown Classic Traveller Supplement 7, Traders and Gunboats. With a little alteration along the sides and rear and widening it just a touch would transform it into the SDB.
