Evening all :o)..
Well we are back from our American adventure after having a fantastic fortnight of mostly glorious sunshine ..One thing I am dissappointed with is that I broke a golden rule by taking a compact instead of taking my SLR .The pics are nowhere close to what I get from my Nikon and thats mainly my fault as I was`nt fully aware of its limitations including trying to compose a shot on a screen on the back that 99% of the time I could`nt see .It was a last minute decision to take a compact as I thought it would be easier .Nevermind I wont make that mistake again :o)..
This shot was taken at the Universal Studios ,one of only a few shots that are`nt snaphots of the family ,all 761 of them lol .
Thanks for taking a look and take care
Mick

Hmm. Quite interesting shot of a great oldie… As for compact cams, the problem is with the model! There are bad quality ones and others of pro level such as the Canon G series, some Panasonics (LX1 to LX3), the new Olympus Pen and the former C5050, the Nikon Coolpix 5000 and derivates such as the fantastic 8400, the recent P6000 etc. A compact may have specific uses. For me I have a Coolpix 5000, its advantages are: its smaller than a SLR, nevertheless it has a true optical viewfinder (like the Canon G series, and the P6000), the LCD viewer can take every orientation so I can frame exactly as I could do with an old SLR with interchangeable, waist-level finder (fantastic for discrete waist-level shooting but also when the camera is held high above head) but… the advantage of the compact is that it can take sometimes a true fish-eye converter for round or rectangular shots, at will! mtc has posted such kind of fish-eye photo with a Coolpix 5000 ("fishing nets, Le Croisic"), and I posted ""Paris, May 1st 2009" as an example of camera held above the head.

You did have great weather for sure--and it sounds like your trip was great. Next time you'll know about cameras!!

I love this shot. I know what you mean about the compact. I forgot and decided one day to use my trusty pocket camera. I remembered it was really a great camera before I got my last camera... but when I went to take a macro I found it was really limited and when I tried to pull back for a long shot, everything got small and indistinct. What a pain. but at least I got some "memory shots" even if they weren't up to my own standards of quality. but this one you did is really gorgeous!

This is great! Such a wonderful, classic scene. Nicely done! Glad you had a good time, despite the camera issues.
