He's beautiful! did he already snap a tine at the end or is it just the position he's in? This is gorgeous and I really hadn't known of the deep change in color they have. A different part of the country and they look so very different than from around here. Stellar shot!

Quite an opportune capture, with the sun shining through the trees to illuminate your subject like this! Very nice, although I wonder if ISO 800 with a slower shutter speed would have been able to get the same result? I only mention that knowing what ISO 1600 typically looks like at full rez on from the XTi- but then again with all the leaves and texture, perhaps its just not apparent in this photo; and I certainly see none at this size, so from a technical achievement, you did very well as evidenced by the end result.
