Description

This is a very rare bird that can be 50lbs in weight and there is a conservation and re-introduction of this species in Salisbury plain in Wiltshire near where I live. this wonderful bird was last seen when Queen Victoria was a child! The species suffered a huge decline in numbers in the 17th and 18th Centuries as a result of changing farming practices and hunting, and has only been an occasional visitor to this country since the 1840s. It has also seen populations fall worldwide and globally is considered vulnerable to extinction.

How absolutely beautifu! The sculptin gof this birds head and neck are incredible - like something gently carved from marble. What a fabulous creature! How lucky you are to have seen this yourself.

50 lbs??? That's a good sized bird, maybe they were to good to eat and hunted to much? If they're protected they'll have a chance to repopulate. Nice shot Danny! I hope you're feeling better these days! ;-)
