Diana looked across the moon-lit city towards the arena. How could her goddess be so cruel? She had devoted her life to the Temple. Then he had appeared, a handsome warrior now a gladiator. She first saw him over a week ago at morning worship. Every morning since he had attended the ritual. They had not spoken, but she new he wanted her. Only after she was ordained did she realize the ritual dances served to entice men into the temple. She didn't mind, it meant more followers for the Goddess of the Moons. This morning as she handed out the strips of sacramental meat to the congregation, she felt his fingers brush hers when he lifted his portion of holy meat from the gold platter. This was a sin. No one was ever to touch a sacred virgin. When she looked into his eyes to show her disapproval, he stared straight back, daring her to call the temple guards. However, the tingle on her flesh, where his skin had caressed hers, stopped her. Then he was gone. Now, alone in her chamber, the memory of his muscled frame, and the fragrance of his skin pulled at her desires. She knew it was a sin to succumb to such feelings. She had to resist, if she wanted to become the next high priestess. Was she committing another sin, that of pride. She wondered as the warrior lay asleep in the barracks did he dream of her? He would be back tomorrow. What bold move would he make, and how would Diana react?
