Description

No visit to the central Florida coast is complete without a boat ride into the Merritt Island Wildlife Preserve. If you are lucky your skipper will be a Florida version of Crocodile Dundee. Gruff, possibly unwashed and full of stories, but he will know where everything is. Just stay in the boat!

Looks like the morning after. Love how they use each other for pillows. Wonderful reflections in the water! Great capture!

Ah, I did two tours of the Springs while I was in the Ocala area. One was to Silver Springs and the other was a similar boat tour in that general area. I also did a boat tour at the manatee rescue in Homosassa Springs - which by the way was my favorite tour and I fell in love with the manatees. I saw only a few gators in my tours but I saw anhingas and monkeys and raccoons and cooters and a few gators and swamp rats and oh, my... the wildlife is just amazing - like this shot of this pile of gators.

Wonderful shot, looks like you are right in there with them! They truly are prehistoric looking, mean green killing machines. Once crossing Alligator Alley during a torrential downpour and wicked thunderstorm, I lost control of my car and went backward into a canal. I thought for sure it was filled with these characters ready to crunch-a-munch me. I was able to climb out of the window, onto the hood and jump to safety. I'm always aware of these guys. We've added a few new terrors, anacondas and pythons. Welcome to Florida. :)

What a choice, stay in the boat with a smelly skipper or throw oneself to the reptiles.
