Description

There are a group of mostly older men who are referred to as "Live Steam" enthusiasts. They typically build small steam engines big enough to ride on and pull several passenger cars. This little live steam engine is about 3 feet (1 meter) tall and 7-8 feet (2 meters plus) long. The boiler must pass annual inspections and the men that run them have to be completely knowledgeable about the safe operation of a steam engine (mess up and it can blow up). I left the crop large to give you a sense of scale. The engineer for this little engine was off running a small scale diesel engine. Here is the engineer: Click Here Bill:) Note: A problem for the guys running one of these is it must be attended continuously from the time a fire is lit in the boiler until hours later when the fire is extinguished. Steam locomotives, tractors, cars and boats are a labor of love.

I don't know.....it sure looks a toy, a most sophisticated one, but still a toy, from where I sit, Bill. It appears you used the Poster Edges filter in these photos. In any event, fine clarity, composition, and deep colors in this keen kollage.

Great shotting here! I agree! Big boy toys. :) Reminds me when I was a kid. They used to have scaled trains that took kids for a ride at the Drive In Movies. Now I'm showing my age. :)

Fantastic. I remember the old steam engines and enjoyed seeing and hearing them. One place I lived an old Malley (Mallet) chugged by once a day. A pleasant memory.

We have a train show in a public park here once a year and they have a small steam train that takes a few open passenger cars around a track. Its really fun. Wonderful shots of this small engine.

How lovely to be able to play with these wonderful little engines and you would need to be a real enthusiast to build one of these. Excellent captures.

That would be a really cool hobby. Could you imagine playing with trains that are small but big enough to ride on???? I could handle that.
