Description
The thatched structure you see is an example of a Chickee hut, used for shelter by Florida’s Seminole and Miccosukee tribes. The roof is thatched with cabbage palm fronds and was documented by Spanish explorers in the 1500s. You are looking at the roof from the inside and the sides, on this hut, has a 4 foot wall and is then open up to the roof line,like a gazebo. Info provided by Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department. Photo was taken, last week, at Green Cay Wetlands, west of Delray Beach, Florida
