My corporeal form lives with my wonderful wife and six eccentric cats in beautiful Sedgefield, but my dreaming body is frequently elsewhere, exploring the fractal universe and marveling at nature's chaos. I love traveling to places that exist only as mathematical constructs on my computer and bringing back snapshots that sometimes remind me of the real world (whatever that means), sometimes of metamagical worlds we can visit only in our imaginations. I trained as a biologist and run a small company specialising in science publishing - writing, editing, illustrating and typesetting. For 3D world building I use Vue, Daz Studio and Poser, but I've also used Bryce since version 2 and done some work with Terragen, Carrara and Groboto. For technical illustration I use mainly Illustrator and Photoshop.
Thanks for visiting my little corner of Renderosity, and to everyone who has kindly commented on my images or added my works as a favourite, thank you for that too. Craig.

great!

I like both versions, my preference is the first for realism but . . . for mood, this second version could be regarded as better!!
Savage_dragon
Hmmmm. I like them both for different reasons. I like the dusty desolation of the first one. Made me thirsty. The second one feels like it burns the lungs as well as the skin. Very cool work, Craig. Oh. I'm loading that second barrel now. ;)

Excellent scene

This probably doesn't help but I like 'em both - for different reasons. The first iteration has a sense of being a 'real' place but the second seems more like an illustration - perhaps a book cover or movie poster. The strong colour cast makes it automatically unbelievable and unconvincing as a real location. Ultimately which version is 'best' may well depend on your final intentions for the image.
Merlin_Studios
Beautiful lighting and colour. I think this one looks more dramatic and evocative than the other but they are both very good renders.

Gorgeous! I love the new atmosphere.

Great capture and composition. I really like the almost abstract effect you've achieved. Nice greetings for you.

Fabulous! The reds make this one stand out !

Very nice scene. Excellent lighting, atmosphere and colour! I think the first image is more realistic for our planet, but this image is more appealing because of the colour. Who said this was earth anyway lol. Excellent work.
artgum
I'd go with this version- the rays through the thick reddened atmosphere add a lot here!

Of course the new one is much better becaused it gets it's title from a really cool Yes song rather than a portion of a gameshow. The new one does look somewhat Roger Deanie, (Deanesque?). It would be cool to see those ptooiedactyls attacking Alex Trebec... Listen, your friends have been broken, They tell us of your poison; now we know. Kill them, give them as they give us, Slay them, burn thier children's laughter On to hell. Now I'll return this comment section to Craig and all of the serious commenters.

Very striking colors and atmosphere. This lighting does work even better than the old one. Beautiful!

I like them both, but I think the colour and lighting in this one create a much more dynamic and otherworldly image set...very well rendered Craig,I really like the light rays in the top image!
castaneda
This one in red is more in mood as opposed to the other which is more real world. I like both
