Description

In 1958 Uruguayan composer, sculptor, and painter Carlos Paez Vilaro, who was born in Montevideo in 1923, purchased a sea-front property on eastern Uruguay's scenic Punta Ballena and built a small, wooden lodge that became 'Casa Pueblo' (house-village). The sprawling compound, a white washed cement structure reminiscent of Mykonos, was built in stages by the artist to resemble the mud nests created by the region's native hornero birds. It became his home, atelier, and museum. Though he resided in Casa Pueblo - his 'living sculpture' - by 1968 Paez Vilaro continued to add on to the structure at his desire, at times adding a room for a particular guest. He later opened a section of Casa Pueblo to tourists as a hotel (pictured). Paez Vilaro continues to be active in European and African culture and during his times in Europe made many friendships, particularly with Brigitte Bardot and Pablo Picasso, whose influence can be seen in Paez Vilaro's art. He has created murals and sculptures that are in Argentina, Brazil, Chad, Chile, Gabon, the United States and elsewhere in Africa and in the Polynesian Islands. This picture was taken on 29 November 2006. Thank you for viewing, commenting, and favs, Sig...

The architecture of this building reminds the Antoni Gaudì's houses, the Spanish architect of modernist architecture. Fantastic capture! :)
