Description

Henties Bay, Namibia - March 2009. The small town of Henties Bay is about 75 km north of Swakopmund on the Skeleton Coast and is built on a natural dune about 50 feet high. This is where we stayed for the 2 weeks. It is great fun going down the dune to the beach area but far less fun getting back up... LOL... I captured this image one afternoon just after sunset and loved the light play on the Atlantic waters! You see such interesting places...and well...Namibia is a particular love of mine because it's the stunt double for the planet Tattooine in the Star Wars saga...well...Namibia and Tunisia, so needless to say, the Star Wars geek in me must see those places just to see if I can find Jawas and encampments of Tusken Raiders and maybe a vaporator farm or two. But with all of that aside, this is a stunning image. I love the pattern the water makes on the shore, and the play of light is wonderful, since all of the colors are so soft and bordering on indistinct...it's like they approach this membrane to wash-out, but never cross it. I love the way you've captured that. It's quite stunning in so many subtle ways.

This is a wonderful picture, so full of mood and drama. You can almost hear the waves slapping against the shore, the dampness of the mist, and the feel of the world setteling down into the tranquility of night. Lovely stuff.
