Description

this is my entry to My FX weekly Challenge # 148 'Masquerade' at the ImagineFx magazine forum. Another in my series of the West that never was. This is one of Sheriff Cal's close friends John Littlemoon. John's tracking something nasty that uses an artifact called the Blood Mask. Long ago the tribes from the far south, tried to conquer the people of the great plains and used blood magic in their war. The people of the plains united and brought forth great shaman and warriors of their own into play, beating back the invading hoard. But some of the would be conquers left some of the magical weapons behind. The blood mask being one of the nastier. done in photoshop

i like the differential in lighting, associating the mask with darkness. the pose feels very natural. the style is a good balance of detailed and realistic with stylistic and impressionistic. i really like the hint of autumn rather than all out spring or fall.
