Description

A not-so-scenic or charming image from France. We were driving from Arles to Dijon when I spotted this horse grazing in the shadow of a nuclear power plant. France has 58 nuclear power plants that produce about 90% of it's electricity. The French people generally have a favorable attitude towards nuclear power, as it reduces their reliance on foreign oil & reduces emissions of greenhouse gases. However, there have been incidents of leaks of uranium into rivers & the issue of nuclear waste disposal hasn't been solved - just postponed in the hope that future generations will find a solution. Proponents of nuclear energy would like to see more nuclear plants built in the U.S. I'm not one of them - I think the risks are too great. I'd much rather see a massive effort to exploit safer, renewable sources of energy combined with an effort to reduce our energy consumption.

Yup, sort of unnerving to see this. Not long ago I posted a similar sight only a vast vineyard grew beneath our towers. Wonderful and thought provoking shot.

If you turn out the lights, does he glow I would be more for NE if we had a better way of disposing of the waste. I'm with you, wind, solar and hydroelectric power all the way!

Wow talk about not planning ahead huh... maybe if we all conserve a bit more we won't have a need for all this.. I agree with PJ very unnerving scene.
