Description
Found this fellow and a lot more of them right beside the sidewalk. A moment later, I saw some of them ejecting their spores like a volcano through the little crater on top, just when being hit by a raindrop.

@kbrog: Thanks for letting me know its correct name! I thought it was a collard earthstar but wasn't sure. The only thing I know for sure is that one shouldn't eat it! ;-)

This is a really terrific capture. I am totally unfamiliar with this particular fungus. If you let your imagination go, it actually is startlingly like something someone might make up for a sci-fi show. Wow. Too cool. :)
