Hi, I'm Marilyn.  I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile.  It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here.  I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends.  Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time.  Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!!  Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet.  You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long.  Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Brilliant! It confuses the eye to the point of 'is it 3D or not?'! It's like a sculpture.

This is WAY good! I think back to other shots from this same fence, and I see how you're seeing things differently. A fascinating process, and a gorgeous result!

Beautiful capture of shadows!!

Your POV matches your Chicago wrought iron fence POV...will have to keep this in mind when I see my next fence:) Very cool.

OOOH! This is GREAT! When I first saw it in thumbnail I couldn't tell what it was, but my eye was immediately drawn to it. The lighting is beautiful and I love the way the reflection is rippled on the sand giving it an almost other worldly quality. The black & white adds a lot of texture and depth to what was already a very nicely realized shot. Great work!! P.S. I'll hopefully be back to posting as soon as things settle down a bit more with the new place and I buy a new computer. Hope all is well with you, and again, a great shot!

I get that hot, gritty feeling of a wind-swept beach from this. Excellent b/w

I love fence shadows!!! And these are undulating, besides! Don't fence me in! Sensational bit of clarity, perspective and contrast in this great foto, Maz!

I love the starkness of the monochrome! Brilliant choice for this excellent presentation. This is definitely something worth zooming in on. I could easily see this hanging on a gallery wall too...with lots of people in black turtle necks looking at it. Beautiful work!

yes Marilyn, I really do resonate with this way of seeing things. To me, these angles & shadows & microcosmic cosmos's (ie, whole worlds made out of a single view) are as natural as someone else's still life. In fact, this is a Marilyn still life. This energy & penetration is just etched into your cells. Didn't this get LWITG? Did I see that correctly? (I'll check right now...go get a snack, lol...) (tick, tock, tick, tock...) Yes, you got it this week! Good. It belongs there! Anyway, it's always great to see you in b&w, since some of your shots lend themselves really well to the tonally pure world of b&w, and this is almost a fence & its mirror image—except that the mirror image is the shadow. A real focus-in-on-one phenomenon shot, and you get a whole unfolding universe in the process. Shot well, cropped well (if you cropped it) and a piece of visual music. Sometimes when I was with you, you spoke so liltingly & gently about your life, then you'd turn & shoot, and I'd think: Pictures will come out of that that will turn the world upside down. Great energy, an accordion of light & shade, I love the piece. (You ain't gonna see this scene in Chicago!)

Love the ripply effect of the shadows on the sand, which shows up so well in B&W. Beautiful shot!
