You should really download Terragen again, it's not that difficult to learn. Just needs some tutorials to read first imo. I've found very helpful ones on www.terra-dreams.de. It's a German site but you can switch to English, and most, if not all, tutorials are in English as well. You can also download Terragen and plugins there. Give it a go, it's worth it!
