Description

The gardens of the Chateau Villandry are spectacular, but I found it hard to capture the scale of it (you'd almost have to do it from a plane or helicopter), so I went for a closeup of a single flower instead. Anyone know what kind of flower this is? The gardens have 3 levels - a water garden level, an ornamental garden level & a vegetable garden level. Eight gardeners work full time to plant 45,000 plants & 60,000 vegetables each year. These gardens are considered the finest example of formal Renaissance gardens in France.

It looks very much like the flowers I've seen in some colonial embroidery but I thought they were imaginary. This is a spectacular flower, never seen anything like it. Gorgeous!
