Description

Arlington National Cemetery lies across the Potomac River from Washington D.C. America's best men and women have been laid to rest here and in national cemeteries across the country. The amazing realization that came over me as I walked among the stones was how peaceful and strangely beautiful it was.

Without question, I think, Arlington is one of the most beautiful cemetaries I have ever seen. Beautiful, respectful and tranquil shot.

It is indeed lovely. I like how you have the nearest stones in focus for us to read.

This is a wonderful series you are doing. I agree with you, graveyards always seem to be peaceful places. I guess they try to make them that way so families can be calmed. Arlington is quite different from most graveyards since most of the residents entered because of war. This picture really makes you wonder about all the lives cut short. Too sad.

This is very well composed, with long lines of identically shaped headstones stretching down to the the more varied ones in the distance. The slight hill on the left, spotted with indistinct stones is contrasted by the heavily shaded stones on the right. The shade in the foreground adds to the tranquil mood. I too liked the sharp focus of the nearest graves. I wonder if crosses stand for any denomination of Christianity. All of the graves that I can see have crosses but her's, which has the Methodist cross and flame. Beautiful image and atmosphere.
