Description

Small talk overheard from two cattle at the Scottish border last fall: "Your fur coat is thicker than mine." "Ahhh...you say that every November." Anyway, the cattle are interesting for those who have not see them before. There is much cattle history in the British Isles. The red one to the right is an ancient Scottish breed, the Highland cattle. The other may be a Galloway, another old breed but I do not know for certain. The cattle are quite different from those I see in our area of this world. Photo taken last year, discovered when going through files on an external hard drive.

I can't get over how shaggy the big fella is... I'm not surprised that it's a very old breed; he seems almost "bison-like." Good shot!

Glad you found this Tom. Two fascinating and yes very different breeds from what I've seen in the US. Like your sense of humor:)

We have a few of these on Dartmoor and they always look intimidating with those sharp horns. This guy looks suitably relaxed though. Great capture!

I am so pleased I found this! We call the black one, with the white middle, 'Oreal cows' - Seems to fit somehow - but they are indeed Belted Galloways. ^=^ There are many on Bodmin moor, and many Highland cattle also. quite a friendly bunch which is just as well conidering the size of their horns. Wonderful image and 'oow conversation'. ^=^

Excellent double bovine portrait. :) I like the half and half cow more than the brown long furred one (who looks like needing an haircut, somehow).
