Whoa! Where did the side section go? Like the B&W option and the detail, that you mentioned, on the side of the building. Super catch. Dana

So matey to ask a silly question....are the doors on these fire escapes locked. If they are isn't that dangerous....if they aren't then what stops people from robbing the occupants?

This is a wow Marilyn. You are doing some great stuff lately with unique POV that is really coming across well IMHO. Some people seem concerned about fire escapes...I'd sleep much better knowing I had a way out rather than hoping the place never caught on fire. I think fire proof stairwells in newer buildings have made the need for these external fire escapes unnecessary today...but the old buildings need 'em still. Ref Blinkings comment above: Think most people went out windows to the fire escapes...there weren't doors just for the fire escapes in most of the old apartment buildings. Before the time of air conditioning, lots of city dwellers would sit outside in hot summer weather on these.

towering shot. I got confused just trying to look through that tangle. Excellent work, Marilyn.

Wow, talk about grated gridwork! They like to use these things for scenes in crime and fugitive movies. Stellar all the way, Maz!

This is a strange fire escape...it looks like a fire escape with a fire escape attached to it. You get those on occasion, though it's mostly a trick of perspective and all of those lines and angles. Fire escapes are like a zebra's stripes...they confuse predators, though I have no idea what sort of predator hunts fire escapes! I like them, especially on older apartment buildings. They have become such a part of Chicago's personality that I think the city is actually having something of an identity crisis because newer buildings have internal fire-proof spiral staircase/corridors and not these eye-tangling beauties. I love the POV here, and now I'm gonna go looking for this building!
