Description
A closer view of the coach road at the Palladio's villa of Maser (Treviso, 16th century). As I said, the estate was cut through by a modern provincial car road, which divides the villa buildings, the formal garden, the vineyards on the hill behind the buildings, and the attached Museum of the coaches, from the farm buildings. The fountain with Neptune, a nearby family chapel, the coach road and the farm are on the other side of the road.
Once coaches came along the tree-lined boulevard, stopped at the fountain to let people go out of the coach, and then turned back. Currently the entrance to the villa is from a side gate, about 100 metres up the road, through a walking path.
Those who commented about the 19th century flavor of my previous post are right,: many landscape painters have been inspired by this area.
