Description

Time for a little tongue-in-cheek. I am rushing a bit today...four hours until company arrives. Story here: My grandfather "Pop", liked to smoke his pipe and cigars and drink beer at home after work. General Ulysses S. Grant of USA Civil War fame and later president of the USA, liked the same things. So in this, my 2nd or 3rd photo manipulation ever (about year 2000), my grandfather is welcoming "Sam" Grant at my grandfather's house sometime in the mid-1920s for a beer. My grandfather is still wearing his painter's clothes from a full day out on the job. General Grant is wearing a uniform similar to the one he wore in April 1865 when he accepted the surrender of General Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia, effectively ending the Civil War. Silly but fun. Happy Thanksgiving to all who see this and celebrate this day! Bill:) Note: If I had the bits and pieces of this for a do-over, I'd clean up the General's image more...I didn't know much about artifacts 9 years ago:-)

Happy Thanksgiving to All. I hope Ulysses doesn't have to sleep over at your place tonight...but surely may need a designated driver.

This is great! Your grandfather looks quite happy to be welcoming his guest. I'm sure the general will loosen up after a beer or two. (Or maybe he's already just trying to hold it together!) LOL!

What a clever and wonderful idea. You did a great job compositing the General into your grandfather's photo. They do seems to fit well together. I bet they would have enjoyed the beer and smoke.

Well, somebody sure got time warped, Bill! Shades of Forrest Gump. When the General saw this truck, he stopped and wondered why he had ever messed around with horses and mule packs in the first place. Great bit of digifiddling manipulation in this stunning old capture.

Complimenti ! Ottimo lavoro ! ( anche a me piace fare questo tipo di lavori : mantiene in vita la parte di bimbo che gioca che e' dentro di me ) Congratulations ! Excellent work! (Also I like to do this kind of work: it keeps alive the child playing the part that's inside of me)

Oh, I love fun like this! I'm still working on a self portrait with Franz Kafka...THAT should be interesting once I'm done with it, but it's taking a LONG time, simply because Kafka is not exactly a cooperative model. Enough of that though; this is a wonderful image, and it's perfectly seamless. I love the historical accuracy...sort of...and the mood of the image is perfect. This is wonderful work.

Brilliant work here Bill. Love the phone number on the truck. Those were the days. U S Grant looks pretty good for his age. Dana
