new perspective
unfamiliar
yet I know
it like
the back
of my hand
these places
i called home
for so many weeks
i’d pack
my bags
say goodbye
to one family
and come back
to the other
moving out
moving in
every few days
my body was ok
my mind
sometimes
not so much
changing
back and forth
fitting in
finding my place
settling down
wherever I was
living at
that particular
moment
what did I learn
oh my
so much
so very very much
getting out
of my own skin
leaving behind
all I’ve known
for so many years
never had to think
about what I did
what I said
how I did things
where I could
put my life
it allowed me
to relearn
myself
and in so doing
i left behind
a whole lot
of garbage
a ton
of trash
sacksful
of unwanted
baggage
i came home
lighter
freer
happier
joyful
and filled
with hope
this perspective
gives me
a new look
at life
i
am
thrilled
