UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

This is outstanding! It not only looks like it's under water, it looks like it's underway! Whatever process is happening over there in your creative brain ... I heartily approve. The soft pastels makes this look like it might be a painting. Truly excellent work, my friend.

the illusion of being under water is very strong

your silhouetting & processing, to get a feeling of something shining subtly, in dignity, through the layers of time, gets better & subtler all the time. This has the feel of some of the fine portrait photography of the last century, in the way you highlight and allow light & shape to recede; the torpedo takes on an air of introspection and poetry in your version (as good portrait artists will do), and your postwork not only applies a tad of gentle grain, but you've achieved a radiating effect in the breakup of the light into layers around the torpedo. (I do this all the time in my painting; but you're doing it much more subtly here.) It feels underwater, but also like it's posing in a dream. Very delicate & fine, Bill. More fine postwork from you. (Bill, here are 4 at-random portraits displaying the varying use of light, dark & shade to capture the mystery of a portrait. It's not the deep inner-ness of your torpedo, but it's an example of how shade beautifully shapes the subject, as you ask us to do here with a torpedo. First two by Irving Penn, the last two by Richard Avedon, both masters; and they're all B&W: Here Here Here and Here.)

Neato lighting in this capture of the inert torpedo, Bill. Looks like it was underwater. SEALS are on their way to disarm it.
