Description
The state of mind of a photographer while creating is a blank. For those who would equate "blank" with a kind of static emptiness, I must explain that this is a special kind of blank. It is a very active state of mind really, a very receptive state of mind, ready at an instant to grasp an image, yet with no image pre-formed in it at any time. We should note that the lack of a pre-formed pattern or preconceived idea of how anything ought to look is essential to this blank condition. Such a state of mind is not unlike a sheet of film; seemingly inert, yet so sensitive that a fraction of a second's exposure conceives a life in it. Not just life, but "a" life. -Minor White

realism: reality, the state of being actual or real What is reality, anyway? Just a collective hunch. ....Lily Tomlin I do like this realism though. Sounds like Minor White was describing a Zen experience. (What ever happened to Major White?)

Another challenging idea. The trouble with 3D tools is that, unless you are careful and skilled, they limit the creative process and then produce a second rate reality. They are great for producing pictorial elements, which can then be fed into a huge variety of processes, which is where the creativity really begins and the image can lead you in chance directions. For my money, realism is a sideshow, but is usually necessary in the Poser bit of the process. The issue is producing an image that is credible and gives the perception of reality, as you say. It's too easy to produce poor images and too easy to fool oneself that something is realistic enough, when it is actually too dull to bother with. Quality control? Which is why I keep coming back to your images. They always speak of something. You always do something interesting with the tools that we all have access to. I like this one and I'll probably like the next one. And I like your little philosophical diatribes, too.

This is an interesting concept.. Made me think of 'reality' ..what idoes it mean for me.. How do I use it.. I try to project my feelings, my desires, my unholy wishes, into my images I guess.. Looking and searching for the ultimate sensuality. If I could do that in a cartoonish way I would, but I can't, same goes for paint or crayon, I can't. So then there are 3D programs.. That ~I can~ do.. :) Love your style and your teachings Terry! ..and your new Av is nice too, though the previous one was very mysterious :)

Your hints are always welcome but the hard part is the doing. You have a wonderful feel for your pictures and they turn out so beautifully real. I think it has a lot to do with talent which you have in abundance. This one is so very beautiful.

This is a very beautiful portrait. The lighting is so soft and really perfect. Now, you've touched upon one of my favorites. "Reality" is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends upon what we look for. What we look for depends upon what we think. What we think depends upon what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. What we take to be true is our reality. -- Gary Zukav - The Dancing Wu Li Masters - An overview of the New Physics A lovely portrait in any reality.
