Description

Just a common black cricket. There are about 900 species of crickets. Only the male "chirps". Depending on chirp, it can lure female crickets or repel the males. And much to popular belief, they do not chirp by rubbing their legs together. A large vein runs along the bottom of each wing. The vein has teeth, kind of like a comb does. By running the top of one wing along the teeth at the bottom of the other wing, a chirp is produced. While he does this, the cricket holds the wings up and open, so that the wing membranes can act as acoustical sails. Cool, huh? God has really created some amazing things on this earth. The cricket is just one of them. The photo is a bit grainy, but thought it interesting anyway. Thanks for viewing and comments on my previous posts.
