Description

Hi thanks for looking in! Another Middle Earth render here. This is my depiction of the south region of Lothlorien where the Silverload and Anduin rivers meet. I took a little break from some other things to play with Dominic Davison's Vue tutorial from 3D Artist Issue #8. I really like the way he gets you 'into' the forest. So here was the result. If you see the tutorial you'll know I followed along very loosely and did my own thing as far as lighting and plant placement went, but it was very informative and Dominic Davidson is an awesome artist. Recommended. Gazebo of Mog Ruith from DAZ 3D. Elven Boat and Flock of Birds from Cornucopia 3D. Trees are pretty much summer cherry with the odd winter pear in there for variety. The terrains are covered with complex ecosystems as explained in my last piece "Ducks in Flight." I added some flowers to the mix for this one. Atmosphere is global radiosity with a low fog layer and some high volumetric clouds. Quality settings maxxed for lighting and atmosphere. Another thing that helps in the realism department is to add about 2 degrees to softness to the sunlight shadows and crank the shadow quality. Rendered in Final mode with some tweaks to the anti-aliasing in 27 hours at 1920x1080. Postwork was some levels adjustment and tweaks to hue and saturation. As always I really appreciate those of you who take the time to comment on my images... doubly so if you can come up with ideas for improvement.

Fantastic piece of art! Atmosphere and lighting are perfect. Maybe you should have put an elf near the boat, but this is only a question of taste. Nothing else to improve. Greetings Lemy

I always love it when you depict Middle Earth in your renders. Your Mordor render is one of my all time favorite images. The sunlight in this one is very impressive. The dappled light on the grass and water adds much to the atmosphere.

Wow! you make it look so easy. Thanks for the reference info. The water is fantastic. The multiplane ecosystem works well. The forground plants gives a sense of attachment.

don't ask me why i'm so late to this party. i'm incredibly impressed with the realism, and i love how you used literal atmosphere to create an emotional atmosphere. the only thing that stands out as CG is the roughness on the top part of the gazebo and the yellow bloom on the light. what is the correction like in Vue? does it have gamma correction or sRGB correction, or something different altogether? absolutely lovely work, with very helpful notes.
