Description

Another homework project. I'm afraid, this time I did a very big piece, maybe too big for me to digest. We're doing digital coloring this time, and this is the sketch. I spent 2 days alone with planing the layout and figures, did several renders in Poser for lighting on the figures. Yesterday was sketching day (oh, my right arm hurts!!!) and I already managed to create several separate channels for the foreground figures and elements. I'm so glad I've got my new Intuos to do this. Well, I hope to get to the coloring tonight - at least start it!

Ah, a talent I sadly lack. Very nicely done and exceptional elements.

"I love everything that is able to fly ... but especially dragons." Yes .. and it shows through.   :-) I like your dragons, Kim.  They are naturalistic. The flaw in most dragon art is found in the muscle structure and distribution of body weight.  This is what makes them creatures of "fantasy". If such a beast were capable of flight, by non-magical means, then the muscles of the chest and shoulders would need to be well developed .. as you have them in this depiction.  This fact and the location of the wings themselves would mandate that a dragon's body would near to always dip forward in flight; the bulk of body weight being forward of center.  They got this really right with the Nazgul in Jackson's LOTR .. and in certains scenes it looks really right and really cool.  As soon as I saw the "dip" of your dragon here I was reminded of the best shots from Return of the King.  Although, I can hear your words already, "Well, that's just how dragons are supposed to look."  Yes, of course .. that is true .. to the eyes of one who has seen them. ;-) I also like the sure footed stance of your heroine atop that tiny spire; as if that is just where she belongs.  Plus the anticipation of her little friend is charming .. as if he too yearns to leap off and soar. Enjoy the illuminating process tonight! Terry
