Description

Turns out to be a "curly tail lizard" thanks to Dglyman. I really liked Clive's skink posting, so I went into my files for a local skink. I checked Wikipedia and could not find anything like this photo so I'm guessing that locals have tagged this lizard as a skink and it may not be. So it turns out to be a "curly tail lizard". There are presently 28 species. Leiocephalus is the only genus in the family Leiocephalidae This one is about 5 inches (13 cm). The tail goes up as danger approaches and it is a sign that s/he is about to run. Thanks for stopping by, taking a peak and for all your previous comments. Dana

Nice photo, but your lizard it is generally known as a curly tail lizard not a skink. A skink almost looks like a snake except that it has legs albeit very short legs and they are generally very darkly colored but look gorgeous if you can catch them in the sun.

A vederla è simile a quelle che trovo io per i colori , ma non ho mai visto la coda così! Bello scatto ! Seeing is similar to those that I find the colors, but I never saw the tail like that! Nice shot!

Great shot, I think I could use some Florida right now, ah Ft Myers sounds great right now. I love how fast those lizards are down there when they want to be.

What a capture! It looks like he's halfway through his molt, which also means he's only half-dressed! Wonderful details. I've never seen one of these beauties before, and I'm glad I saw this one here. Marvelous work.
