Description

This is the beautiful Tawny Eagle (Aquila rapax). Eagles are large birds of prey which are members of the bird family Accipitridae, and belong to several genera which are not necessarily closely related to each other. Most of the more than 60 species occur in Eurasia and Africa... Gains it's name from the tawny upperparts and blackish flight feathers and tail. The lower back is very pale. This species is smaller and paler than the Steppe Eagle, although it does not share that species' pale throat. It was once considered to be closely related to that migratory bird. Migrations are made in response to changes in food availability, habitat or weather. These however are usually irregular or in only one direction and are termed variously as nomadism, invasions,... Steppe Eagles are a large bird of prey. It is about 62–81 cm in length and has a wingspan of 165-200 cm. The Steppe Eagle (Aquila nipalensis), and the two forms have previously been treated as co-specific. They were split based on pronounced differences in morphology and anatomy (Clark, 1992; Olson, 1994; Sangster et al., 2002); molecular analysis indicates that these birds are not even each other's closest relatives.
