We've been covered in snow and it's colder outside than in our freezer, so I'm suffering from a a severe case of color deprivation spring dreams...
This is the first in a series(hopefully) about creatures or objects with all the colors of the rainbow- sometimes vivid sometimes subtle.
I found the dragon fly in my Poser runtime - not sure where I got it from, but it needed lots of improvements. I changed the geometry in Hexagon so the shapes are less angular and added a rim to the wings. The textures are all procedural, done in Vue's function editor. I added the hair using an eco-system (a few simple individual hairs modeled in Hexagon).
In addition to the subtle colors in the wings and the bold colors of the body, look for the colored shadows cast by the wings on the plants. (below and to the right of the dragon fly).

great idea for a series! especially since you work with varied hues so well. i do find your response to winter ironic. after more than 10 years in Texas, i still dream about snow blanketing everything. winter can never last long enough for me. i'm impressed that you basically built a hair system into Vue. and the wings look pretty. i like how oversized the dragonfly looks compared to the size of the leaves and plants. the dragonfly's reflection balances the image for me. the only thing that strikes me is that the lighting seems a little harsh and directional. do you have any ambient light? does Vue support color correction for linear workflow? not that they're necessary. i like the fiery reds and oranges on the body and eyes; they contrast beautifully with the surrounding greenery. i'm looking forward to more in this series.

Now that IS a dragonfly! Wonderful hexagon work and I love the wings, they look like stained glass. This scene certainly lifts the spirits on a gloomy day. Beautiful!
