Description

It's that bridge again! The one Chip and I have waxed photographic about for quite some time. I think Chip has made about 10 posts of this thing by now. If you'll recall, it's the Pennsylvania Railway Vertical Lift Bridge (probably owned by Amtrak now.) Completed in 1915 it's one of only three such bridges in the Chicago area. This reflection shot was taken on the surface of the Chicago River on October 25th, 2009, shortly after it started to rain. Apropos of absolutely nothing, I've become a huge fan of the early 1960s police drama Naked City (presently airing in Chicago at 12:30am on MeeToo TV.) Like most raving obsessives I look for any--even remotely tenuous--way to work the show into nearly every conversation. (You have been warned.) There are 8 million photos of the Naked Bridge...This has been one of them.

There are 8 million stories in the Naked City--this is one of them--omg, Corey--I saw the originals (uh oh, might've given away a bit too much there!!). It was a great series, it's be fun to see it again with my vast years of knowledge and wisdom, or something!! Anyway--another great shot of this bridge---I'm so going to make you two take me there next time I come to Chicago. (won't be till the spring that at the earliest, though!!)

WOW! I like this a lot. OK, I have to admit that we took the same picture, virtually...but that's not surprising since we were so intensely focused on that steel monstrosity of a bridge. I love the dapples of raindrops on the water and the shimmering reflection of the bridge's north tower. Super work, and it's deliciously moody. And I have a question for you and Marilyn. Just how many episodes of Naked City did Norman Fell appear in? Or am I mistaking him for another actor who appeared in zillions of Naked City episodes. The only one I remember (which didn't have him in it) was the one with those Hungarians covering up for a murder in their community. Great work, and thank you for reviving memories of those scheming Magyars too!

When I saw the title I thought, "There are eight million stories on the naked bridge ..." and I've never even seen that show! LOL! I love the reflection -- great angle!

I like this view of bridge. The murkiness of the river with things floating in it and the first drops of rain create a gloomy atmosphere but the reflection of the bridge and the sky add hope. Well done.

Hi Corey...your thumbnail of this bridge really caught my attention. I posted a batch of Chicago images from the 99th floor of the (then) Sears Tower in sometime around July +/- and got these bridges from way up there. Like your reflection only scene here...great POV.

I love the photo, great shooting. You have no idea what was running through my head when I seen the ebot and the title. I think the reflection is really cool. Totally great capture!
