From Castelnuovo climb through the valley of the Serchio SS No. 445, to reach Poggio (km 7.6), where the climb begins to Careggine (m. 882, Km 14.6), which dominates the top of a hill almost flat intensely cultivated. The oldest part of the country, once entirely enclosed by walls that you still have two doors, including the beautiful parish church, which is characterized by an elegant portico with arches supported by columns of sandstone.
Through one of the best chestnut Garfagnana, left to left the crossing for Castelnuovo, you reach a big square (Km 17.8), where you turn left towards Poitiers. Just before entering the village, turn left again, and a few kilometers further down you get to Passo di Scala. In the stretch that follows the road boldly carved into the rock, you can see one of the most impressive and fascinating views of the Apuan Alps: that of the northern slopes of the Massif Panie, looming over the valley and lake of Turrite Dry Island Santa through the great precipices The Lace of arrows, the hill of Vetrica and M. Rovaio.
One kilometer later, is worth a stroll among the houses huts Careggine, have even been abandoned village where you can still see some roofs are entirely covered with thin slabs of stone balconies and old chestnut wood.
By continuing to fall, with two well-known restaurants located in highly panoramic position (the beautiful view of the Pizzo thunderbolt), we reach the bottom of the valley near the Ponte del Balzello (Km 27.8) where, turning left, descends towards Castelnuovo (Km 41.6).
DURATION: easy route to be accomplished in half a day.

TIPS: This excursion can be combined with the 12 if, having reached the valley floor huts of Careggine instead turn left, go up to Arni and Pian della Fioba visiting Holy Island to

Questa è una bella vista della collina, con il tetto in primo piano. Io amo la vista del sentiero. Questa passeggiata tutta suona molto allettante per me. Il villaggio abbandonato in particolare. Tre cose che amo, a piedi, bellissimi panorami e un senso della storia, tutti insieme. Mi piace la serie immensamente. Ne ho qualche decina senza , ma preferisco col tetto: senza si appiattisce . I have a few dozen without, but rather with the roof without flattens. La foto e' scattata dall'alto e quindi ha una compressione della prospettiva ( naturalamente dal mio punto di vista ). Grazie per la tua osservazione !
