Description

The Boeing B-29 Super Fortress 'Fifi' on the ramp at Midland, Texas. 'Fifi' was delivered to the USAAF in Salina, Kansas on 31 July 1945. She spent time with a number of different commands but apparently never saw combat. She was transferred in 1956 to the U.S. Navy storage facility at China Lake, California. In 1971 she was acquired by the Confederate Air Force and flown to Harlingen, Texas, the CAF's home base at the time. The Confederate Air Force, now called Commemorative Air Force, is now located at Midland, Texas. 'Fifi' is currently the only flyable B-29. This picture was taken in September 1998 and later scanned. Thank you for viewing, commenting, and favs, Sig...

It's amazing the path that leads to a display aircraft. My personal B-29 3D model has 3350's off my Constellation so they are Turbo-compounds instead of turbocharged. (I am a bit shy about the technical correctness of any of my turbochargers or centrifugal blowers.) The Constellation got built because I downloaded an Electra and I thought I should be more in the creative space than just texturing. In the real world Darryl Greenamyers attempt to rescue a B-29 from Greenland ended up in a gasoline leak and a fire that destroyed it. There is a nicely polished B-29 at the Liberator Museum in Pueblo, Colorado but no Liberators. You don't realize what a legend you are writing until in 10 years you look at this picture and say "Lots of folks saw this plane. This is the picture I took."
