Description

Hello again! May I introduce...? JULIE FOWLIS ! She looks like an elf, sings like an angel and plays whistle on stage like the devil himself - she is young, beautiful, busy as a bee and very, very talented: As a traditional gaelic singer, but although as multi- instrumentalist: She plays whistles, Oboe, Accordion, the Uillean bagpipe and the big bagpipe.... (I didn`t know that women can play this monster....) And when she smiles, the opens the hearts of the others in a second. This is JULIE FOWLIS, the shooting star under the gaelic singers of today. Julie Fowlis was born at North Uist, an island "far away" at the Outer Hebrides with only 1600 inhabitants. Her mother is a nativ gaelic speaker (One of the last 60 000 in Scotland today) In primary school were only 12 children, and Julie learned the bagpipe basics there. The village where she lived has 2 houses... The neighbours came often, and they sang and made music, as a lot of people do out there. In the age of 13 Julie had to leave the isle; her father got a job at the Highlands. Julie studied in Glasgow at the Strathclyde University and learned playing Oboe; after that she perfected her gaelic language knowlings at the gaelic college SABHAL MOR OSTAIG at the Isle of Skye. After that she was member of "DOCHAS" an all-girl-band of female musical graduates. Here she did her first gigs on stage and was noticed as a fine instrumentalist, not as singer. Her carrier as singer began in 2004 with "Dual" a group of friends of both sexes from Scotland and Ireland. Since she earned with "Dochas" the "Best up and coming" Scots Trad Music Award in 2004, she earns trophy after trophy.... Julie Fowlis is now 30 years old and give birth to her first child "around Christmas". Hope we hear good news soon.... Tis pic here was photographed from my TV yesterday an worked over a little bit. The scene is from "Transatlantic Sessions 3" a BBC produced TV series for BBC 2. It was produced in 2007 at Strathgarry House in Killiecrankie, a fine little scottish country hotel. This series unite the best musicians from Scotland, Ireland, England and the american Bluegrass scene. Wonderful music, wonderful feeling, and an "inside look" into a fine hotel and the scottish art of house music. The musicians are from left: Jerry Douglas- Dobro- USA Donal Lunny- Irish Bouzouki- Irland Julie fowlis- Vocals, Scotland, Hebrides Jenny Reid- Fiddle, Shetlands and others.. Copyright: Pelicula Films for BBC Scotland, BBC 4 and RTE Feel free to bring this pic to live now and see and hear this fine musicians and the language of the gaels, sung by one of the finest gaelic voices, Julie Fowlis: Click Here

A superb air about this composition, so natural and the people look most content in their environment... just enjoying the time away.... I'm wishing I could hear the music right about now :) Superb colours and lighting! Always a most interesting and intriguing subject!

A man after my own heart, i love this music, my only regret is that Trasatlantic Sessions isnt running for at least two hours every night, it might give more reason for turning the tv on. Capercaille, and Lau i could, and quite often do,(well, not quite all), listen to all night
