Description
Ernie could see them walking out of the diner, together, but he went through a half pack of cigarettes and eight refills of burnt coffee trying to come up with that one clever, surefire opening line that would make her smile, or even laugh, without her thinking he was a creep. Could he do it?

Really terrific. Your little details perfectly set the mood. The guy holding his coffe cup while checking her out really give it a sense of "the moment." Altogether, this has a very Nighthawks feel.
