Description

For those of you keeping track at home, this is my brother Trent. I shot this at his 50th birthday party. (He looks pretty good for 50, doesn't he?) White balance set, hand held, available light, no flash. The original image was a bit soft, but nowhere near what you could call blurry. (That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!) Well, okay ... maybe it was a LITTLE blurry. Anyway. Soft focus postwork was the way to go, and I liked the soft color, as well.

He looks like a Nordic ski instructor here. Good looking family. Excellent post work.

Yup, I feel like I know Trent. Excellent photo. Soft does work well here. Again, I am struck by the fact that I don't know much about portraiture and am grasping for words. Have you ever thought of asking Trent to sit speciifically for a portrait? You could experiment, using a tripod with both profiles, full face, quartering shots, and all sorts of lighting. Would he be up for you using him as a practice face? Just a thought:)

This is gorgeous work and a lot better than the "soft focus" once achieved in the classic episodes of Star Trek (rubbing Vaseline on the camera lens--so I've been told.) This has a wonderful ambiance to it, and it has that dream-effect I like so much! Great work!
