Description

This started as one of those rough idea sketches that happed to be on line paper, and hasn't deviated much from that with a quick paintover. The drawing shows front and side view and scale in comparison to one of its run-abouts. I may make a 3D model of it sooner or later, provided the mood strikes. I did come up with a back story of sorts though: This ship dates to an early period at the dawn of the age of applied gravitics. This is a time before inter-stellar travel became common place, and just when the inner solar system was starting to be developed thanks to the gravity-well problem being mostly solved. The Auslander-7 itself is from a series of ships with an early form of gravito-inertial boost, only considered good for planet-hopping since anti-matter power systems weren't fully developed yet. It gets it's name from the fact that it was an outlander ship, and that the German word for forigner seemed fitting. Outlanders as they were, gave up on living planet-side for true freedom, and neither were they belters (various asteroid dwellers), homesteaders, or colonists. Without tracking chips and being part of a barter rather than credit economy, they were essentially foreign to the inner solar system. (Thus the German name was fitting.) Being that the majotity were rebels, outcasts, and runaways, they were typically regarded as outlaws, smugglers, and pirates; to be honest, that really wasn't far from the truth. But outlanders were truely free, and would typically take on jobs that would support belters and the few freedom loving Martian colony nations in order to support their way of life, even if they risked capture and criminal prosecution by the corporate controlled Earth and it's allied Martian colony nations. Most outlander ships do have a history of being stolen property, usually acquired after a mutiny or hijacking in one form or another. Auslander-7 itself was once a space mining company's fast light transport before a strike and subsequent rebellion during a formation of independent belter homesteads. Unlike the brief histories of Auslander-1 through 6, this ship went on to notoriety while smuggling and supporting freelancers (hired vigilantes) amonst the outer worlds and belters. Yet it's fame brings even more unwanted earth fleet attention to the crew, as they are considered wanted criminals in posession of stolen corporate property.
