Description

Here's a scan of a P-40M painted up in British colors. The British Empire air forces called these later models "Kittyhawks" while the earlier B and C models were "Tomahawks." If the AK 845 designation is right, it is an ex-Royal Canadian Air Force machine. The P-40 was "start to finish" WWII fighter. The early models were the first to get the shark mouth paint jobs in North Africa by the Aussies. In 1941 the American Volunteer Group in China picked it up from a magazine photo and became the famous "Flying Tigers." P-40 variants were never the best Allied fighter of WWII, but they were sturdy, reliable, versatile and when flown using the proper tactics quite deadly.

I love these Curtis aircraft, especially the Warhawk. Nice shot against a difficult bright sky.

There is something about this particular war horse, perhaps it is because it is an unsung hero. Also the shot is very special.
