Its a really good image and model, but just WHAT is subserfacescattering? Or what would this picture look like without it...? Because i dont know what im looking at or for, and would LOVE to know. How does it effect render time or quality?

Sub surface scattering is how light enters the skin ( in this case) or it could be a candle or any surface that captures light then when inside the object the light breaks up and scatters. I have another image that also shows this where the camera is behind the robot. A good example of this is if you have every held a flashlight under you hand and you see the light trying to come through the thinner parts of you hand. The light is scattered in your and and leaves your hand in a different place.... it doesn't pass straight through. Also if light is behind a person you can usually see light passing through the ear. Light scattering below (sub-surface) the surface. Hope that helps. This image is very old at the time it was a PAIN to setup. Now it's a little easier. I was talking to someone that said I should start posing images. Just realized you can only post one a day. I'll post another Sub-surface pic tomorrow. -Rob

BTW... It doesn't really effect the render time much... at least I can't tell. Without it it looks much less rubbery and more like plastic. Glad you like. -Rob
