Description
Another image from the snowstorm around xmas time. These seagulls are looking for a free meal from a group of East European immigrants picknicking together under a porch. They usually meet together at the nearby park, but here they are more comfortable under the porch,sheltered from the bitter wind, so their clients had followed them. There were also pigeons, but the seagulls didn't like getting mix up with the lower classes... This is a small open patio called 'piazzetta' (small square), just a few metres from my condo. It's surrounded by high rise block of flats, mostly occupied by offices. Usually it is used by drug addicts and North African pushers during the day and homeless during the night, but the combined forces of the snow and the East Europeans had sent them away. BTW, actually I put together a number of shots of the same place and different seagulls. In the original shot there was only the seagull in the centre diving like a Japanese Zero ;-D.

As an advocate for pigeons, I would like to point out that perhaps it was the pigeons that didn't want to be associated with the lower classed sea gull. LOL Pigeons are a proud but generally non-confrontational bird. Truly a peacemaker; whereas, sea fowl tend to be...well a bit foul-tempered about sharing the world with others. I do love the white feel of this. Great composition.

we have seagulls too... thousands of kilometres from the nearest seas.. they seem lost, at first... longing for the briny ocean toss... until the fast food outlets throw out the garbage and then the birds swoop in... tearing, fighting... dignity gone as they frolic over the discarded big Macs and fries.. cool capture to.. shows the flight and dynamic nature of the birds!

When you said urban seagulls I was expecting tough birds in leather jackets smoking cigarettes but these look almost like doves. Much prettier than our domestic variety here. Wonderful post work.
