Description

Wish WE Were Here In Loving Memory of that which we held in the palm of our hands and casually tossed away...I know there are some who will be offended by this image and what I write but thats okay. If you are reading this then I have your attention for at least a few seconds, I hope you will take the image and words to heart. If you know me, then you know I would never do anything to intentionally harm or hurt anyone...and thats actually the point to be made here. We were given a gift that was to be treasured, we were given the mental ability to decide whether to keep it and tend it well or simply take it for granted and toss it away. Mind you I am not perfect either, I have done my share I am sure in tarnishing this wonderful world we live in. But for me, its about learning from my mistakes and trying to undo them or at least make up for them in some way. And thats what I am trying to do now...Our world is hurting and we in our human form are the cause of that hurt. Its time to wake up people, its time to stop thinking of the material things that none of us really need and think instead of how we can save this place we call home. The earth is not ours; we borrowed it from our children and their children and their children's children. As I look around me on a daily basis I see the legacy we are leaving them and it breaks my heart. How can you not love the beautiful trees that give us the air we breathe, the flowers that scent the winds and color ones day, the sound of the babbling brook, the crisp mountain air, the quiet of the forest, the ripe berries and fruits that are disappearing from the wild...there are so many things to mention but not enough space. If I have to die, I have to but I tell you that I will miss every single blade of grass, every birds song, everything that is natural in this place of beauty...and therein lies the message...do we leave those things to our children or do we leave them poisened and parched earth, synthetic foods, maimed and disfigured animals...its all so senseless to me...I no longer shop in any department store, instead I give of myself and handmade things and try to pass that on as well. We are cheating ourselves and cheating our children for generations to come...The image started with a photo that Alex sent to me called wish you were here...but the minute I saw it I knew it had to be done this way, wish WE were here...I hope you like our newest collaboration but more I hope you heed the call...Tho it may seem strange to do it with this image, we truly wish you a blessed, bountiful and peaceful new year...and truly, I hope we ARE here... Photo and solar system by Alex Icon mostly by Alex Manipulations, colors and text by me :-) The song by Saltwater by Julian Lennon, was the inspiration for this piece, if you haven't heard it, just do a search, you won't regret it!

Lynn this is so well done in every resepect and I hope it has a profound impact on all who view it. You pointed out a lot of our faults that we tend to over look anymore.

This is a most unique and creative expression of things to come if we don't make a change. I wish you the best in the coming year.

Lynn, your words moved me! It 'true that we are leaving our children and our grandchildren a planet sick, almost dying! Yet enough that each of us did a small thing, a small step to helping this our poor Earth! We will do it? Knows! Thanks to you and Alex... this work have sensitized our consciences!

I wanted to comment on this when I had time, then time ran away from me...but now I have the time so I can comment. I know how much of yourself you put into these things, and I know this must have come from very deep down. And as a Cherokee, a guardian of one of the great native traditions which respected the earth so deeply & worked with it, you must feel great pain at seeing what's happening to earth now. Even remote villages are effected, even remote poles. It's so hard, because we do love some of the material things we've made, and life would seem poorer without them: This very computer is made possible by our taking advantage of the earth. But what you say about giving up more material goods is so true: And the more we do it, the more earth helps us in turn. When one fasts, for instance, they start feeling that food is very precious; and when they eat their first fruit--when it's over--it feels like a prodigious gift. One of our teachers said: "When you bite into a grape, imagine the cosmos bursting open in your mouth!" We did it, and in time a single grape seemed like a huge feast. It takes time to let go of things, it's painful for all of us (I'm as bad as anyone else). But when we do, the smallest things become imbued and much more alive to us. And it makes our natural source--ie, the earth--so much more illumined, visible, 'right'. I agree with what you say entirely. In ancient days, when civilizations plundered the earth, there was so much left over when they were done. I mean, it really was that simple: How could you hurt Mother Earth when she had so much in reserve? But now everything closes in on us: There's no more frontier, no more "endless earth" that we can leave to the next generation. The earth will withstand anything, of course, it's this massive rock that can absorb and adjust as is needed. But the life it supports can't--its balances depend on endless intertwined connections. If there's ever been an age that demanded we become stewards (not just hungry children), this is it. I think you're telling us to become Mothers to Mother Earth, to nurture it the way it has nurtured us, and heal it the way it has healed us. If we don't, it will go on its way without us: It won't carry us forever. If we do, it will give back 1000-fold: That seems to be its nature...You don't need to apologize for this upload: It's what everyone needs to remember at the new year. I appreciate the journey you went on and I appreciate the spirit you give us, by sharing it with us now. (And I like your new avatar too!) Blessings to you Lynn & I hope your wish comes true! It may because reality will hit us on the head...but I hope it happens. A wonderful New Year to you, thanks for gracing my gallery & life with your light, Aliheli'sdi Itse Udetiyvasadisv (even though Cherokee new year is earlier, if I'm correct...) A blessed new year to you, and all the light in the world be your Way...
